So, March rolls around and we’re all like, “Hey, spring, where you hiding?” But here at Breezee Barns, what do we get? Snowstorms. Even as April began a few days ago, we received more snow. Yep, Mother Nature’s throwing us a curveball once again. Just a few weeks back, we were pumped about the first signs of spring. Green bits peeking out, tree buds getting ready to pop – it was all happening. But now? Covered in snow. Spring dreams crushed. But we can use the extra moisture.

We have been on the property for almost two years now, trying to turn it from a field into something resembling a yard. Fun fact: this place used to be an alfalfa field. And let me tell you, getting rid of alfalfa is like trying to stop a leaky faucet – tricky but not impossible.

Last year, we thought we were making progress. The yard was basically just construction dirt, but we were like, “Let’s plant some grass.” Well, that plan backfired. We ended up with more weeds than grass. So, come fall, it was time to nuke those weeds and try again. And wouldn’t you know it, as soon as our grass started peeking through, so did those pesky alfalfa sprigs.

Winter Months

Then winter hits, and it’s like Mother Nature hits the pause button. Cold mornings, dormant plants – it’s our downtime. Like summer break, but with more blankets. We’re all about chilling together, but even good things have to come to an end.

Now, spring’s knocking on the door, and we gotta shake off the cobwebs. Time to get back outside and tackle our projects. First up: the yard.

Jason’s been hitting the books again, trying to crack the code on turning alfalfa fields into a real yard. Chatting with the conservation office, local farmers, and making plans – we’re ready to roll come March. They’re saying, “Get those grass seeds ready by April, folks!”

Spring Clearing

Just a few weeks back, we were busting our rears outside, clearing out dead weeds, prepping for seeding. Raking, hauling – you name it. But then, boom! Snowstorm hits, and our plans hit pause.

Now, we’re waiting for that snow to melt – which shouldn’t take long with the sun out and temps rising. But here’s the kicker: mud. With all that raking, our yard’s gonna be a mud pit. And don’t even get me started on the dogs tracking that mess inside.

Once the mud dries up, we’ll get back on track. Fingers crossed we’ll have more luck with the grass this time around. Any grass is better than none, right? And it’ll help cut down on those muddy pawprints, which is a bonus!

Sure, we shouldn’t gripe too much about the snow – the area needs the moisture. We have been in a dry spell lately, so we’ll take what we can get. Compared to last year, we barely got any snow, so we’ll count our blessings. But boy, we’re itching for that sunshine. Bring on the walks, the bike rides, all of it. And hey, maybe we’ll finally nail that yard project this spring. Fingers crossed!
