Why we homeschool.
For the past three years, we have been on a homeschooling adventure with our two youngest daughters. This decision did not happen overnight; it evolved over years as we contemplated leaving the traditional public school system behind to prioritize what truly matters to us. Has it been a breeze? Far from it. Especially during a year without internet (from moving to the farm) and occasional moments of children lacking motivation. However, has it been rewarding? Absolutely!
Despite me holding two bachelor’s degrees and my husband having a doctorate degree, the prospect of homeschooling initially intimidated me. I had conversations with fellow moms who embraced homeschooling and found joy in it, yet I struggled to convince myself that I could be successful at it. I realized it was not about my capabilities, but rather about what would be best for my children and fostering their success.
Throughout our homeschooling journey, we have discovered how uniquely our children learn. One thrives in a traditional classroom setting, while the other excels through research and note-taking on topics that captivate her interest. Liberated from the constraints of a public-school curriculum, they have the freedom to explore and learn without the stress imposed by the demands of the education system.
Reflecting on this journey, my only regret is not starting earlier. I now see how much more my girls could have gained had I trusted myself and begun this adventure sooner.
Homeschooling may not be a one-size-fits-all solution, as everyone has their unique circumstances. It’s crucial to choose what best suits your family. For us, homeschooling aligns perfectly with our needs, and we are content with the positive outcomes it has brought.
